+ let go and let God

And how long has it been
Since someone you let in
Has given what I gave to you

And at night when you sleep
Do you dream I would be there
Just for a minute or two do you?

You ain't ever coming back to me
That's not how things were supposed to be
You take my hand just give it back
No other lover has ever done that

Heartache heartache I just have so much
A simple love with a complex touch
There is nothing you can say or do
I called to let you know I'm through with you

maroon 5

Look for the girl with the broken smile
Ask her if she wants to stay awhile
And she will be loved
And she will be loved

back from watching 50 first dates. imagine having to make someone fall in love with you from scratch over and over again every single day, even after marriage and kids and all. really really sweet movie, made me want to believe in love again and everything that revolves around that four letter word.

had a rotten morning though. rottenrottenrotten. i've said before, if i were to be a teacher, i'd teach primary school. okay now scratch that, send me back to pj anytime, please. teaching 6Boldness on monday was bad enough, teaching 5Flexibility was like total hell. i'm currently thinking of a word starting with F to describe 5F, and believe me it's nothing near flexibility. pfft. i was so angry i cried. so unprofessional but at least it shut them up "Eh keep quiet larh teacher cry already.." people say now you know what you were like last time, hello, my classmates and i were nothing like those chickens whose necks i so wanted to wring today, gave me a fresh outlook on the phrase kids these days. the only vaguely redeeming part of my hellish morning was taking the primary 4s to pe, because they were so cute. and the other thing i love is seeing my brother traipse around school with his comrades, the other day when he first saw me in the staffroom he hugged me, that's what endears him to me most, his unreserve, his jocund manner, his unadulterated purity of heart.
and my class had to watch a science video with Mrs Tan's class. she was my form teacher from primary 4 to 6, and during the show both of us were sitting on the ledge as teachers and it was strange but in an oddly appealing sort of way. i'm thankful too for the sense of familiarity i get each time i see my old teachers, thankful for the sense of groundedness in the midst of transience even in my alma mater.

feeling placid now.

damn you hunger cramps.

thus ends my one-week teaching stint at pjc, and i've somehow emerged unscathed but nevertheless moved by the experience. i've tried to think of ways to describe it without sounding cheesy but i think i'm failing miserably, so for what it's worth, i went in with the intention of teaching, but as it turns out i'm the one at the receiving end, the students have taught me so much. everything that happened today left such a lasting impression on me, and i'm touched by all their gestures, their words, their friendly banter, their exuberance, the warm camaraderie we've shared, i see so much potential in these kiddos, i just really hope the other teachers see it as well. and the biggest irony? the class that really pissed me off on the 1st day has turned out to be my most favourite class. something for me to think about.

and char, tonight was one of the best nights i've had in a long time :) from the good food to the wonderful gig under the stars. for the record, i love, adore, and totally dig acapella, and right now budak pantai sits right there on top as my favourite group. thanks for asking me out to the performance, we'll do this more often okay.

today i msged mrs tham saying i thought she might like to know that i'm currently teaching j2 chem in pjc. she replied with an okay just don't teach the wrong thing, when in doubt please clarify with other teachers and i'm sure you can remember what i've taught you.

hurhur. i bet she was probably retching on the other side or weeping because she was laughing too hard. personally, if you had told me i'd be teaching j2 chemistry 2 years back i'd have shot you a dirty look. now i'm teaching my most hated topic ionic equilibria in my absolute worst subject, God really has a quirky sense of humour. but i could get used to this, as well as all the miss lim jokes and the worst kind of cynical asperity so enthusiastically displayed by my helpful skeptics alsoknownas my friends -" my god poor pj! the pj students will fail like dunno what. the lab will burn down!!" "hsienfei can you pleaseee take over her" "are you sacked yet? tell me when you get sacked" "huh not working at 7-11 yet? how long more!" all hail the voices of reason.

yo yo, i'm a teacher! no shit!

but i don't think i'm that disgusting a replacement. after all the teacher i'm reliefing pronounces alkali as alkalee, and feedback volunteered readily by her students have ranged from her being lorsor and "wah her teaching sucks man!" and that she emphasises on all the wrong things like the importance of wearing safety goggles and no eating or drinking in labs. and at any rate they haven't discovered what a phoney A student i am, today this girl asked me how come you're teaching in pj and not hwachong in all innocence. if only she knew the truth and me being blacklisted by all my teachers. if only she knew about my disgusting chem grades ranging from D to F. but then i thought of deborah and i was only too glad to be teaching at pj stead of hc.
and i do think my teaching abilities, or rather, my ability to lie and sound vaguely credible, improves with each day. i've learnt to blatantly ignore the rowdy students and direct all my attention to the good ones, and i derive some sort of high from seeing the noisy ones actually taking down the stuff i write on the board. and one of the classes, S08, seriously mirrors 72, the guy-girl imbalanced ratio, the noisy heckcare, lolling about on the table charmaine/angelene/vanessa/jiaying type, the too-guai-for-their-own-good deborah/jessica/yinshan type. and aikes i'm actually in mrs tham's position now, now i understand how much she hated me!

and i liked teaching chem prac today, it's fun seeing the students bustle about, asking me how much FA6 to use, how to do the limewater test just right, listen to them quip "it's EFFERVESCENCE larh! not evanescence!!" like, d-oh. i liked fussing over this girl who spilt hot reagent on her finger, taking out the first aid kit and putting the antiseptic cream on. i liked showing people how to hold the test tube in the flame properly, liked emphasising all the main points like, when you add acid, remember to test for gas! and don't ever ever write no change, always write no ppt formed or solution remained colourless, and always always add dropwise till excess for NH3 and NaOH.

and pj people have funky names, like sigmund and sidney and aries.

checkkit.

i actually miss doing this. as a student that is.

Baby there's something on my mind tonight
There's a reason to believe we almost got it right
There's a fire burning in the firelight
As we roll on tonight

There's paper promises and alibis
There is certainly uncertainty in all our eyes
But as long as you are here I'll be all right
As we roll on tonight

So you go out... I'll go on
If there's a doubt... Well, we'll be strong
As we go on singing
One more for love, my love
One more for love

There's always blood to fill the heart betrayed
There are children being born to every house that's raised
And we're getting closer to where we got it made
As we roll on tonight

So you go out... I'll go on
If there's a doubt... Well, we'll be strong
As we go on singin'
One more for love, my love
One more for love
Singin' one more for love, my love
One more for love

I'm never going to wait for anything
Never going to break for anything
Cause I am...
One more for love, my love
One more for love
One more for love my love

Baby there's something on my mind tonight
There's a reason to believe that we got it right
And all and all you're all that's on my mind tonight
As we roll on...

One more for love, my love
One more for love

i feel deflated. absolutely de-fla-ted. and i'm actually really sad, yet at the same time filled with renewed hope and promise. could there be anything more contradictory?
aftter the movie i just walked about rather aimlessly, like zhihong said, it was surreal. you feel so impacted it takes time to adjust back into your usual surroundings, to meld into the crowd, and you can't help thinking, do these people know how much Jesus suffered for them so many years ago? do they? halfway i felt angry, angry at the pharisees for being the lousy, lying bastards they are, angry at Jesus, why didn't he call upon the angels and God to save him from such excruciating torture, why does he have to care so much when we sure as hell don't deserve anything he did for us? angry mostly with myself, i should be the one being scourged and hanging there on the cross, i should be bearing the brunt of his suffering, i should be glorifying His name, instead i sin, i fall from His grace time and time again, hardly repaying Jesus for all that he gave.

but filled with promise, when Jesus arose from the dead, relieved to know that His ordeal on earth is over and He now sits at the right hand of the throne, thankful that i've found forgiveness and redemption even after i've fallen so hard, because of the cleansing blood of the lamb, but grateful most of all, for His precious gift to me and the knowledge that it can never be taken away from me, because it is accomplished and these powerful words have sealed what now lives in my heart forever.

char 4/11/2004 10:48:00 PM

it's not the nails that held Jesus up on the cross, it was the infinite and undying love he had for us.

+ if God thinks in terms of little children as Jesus did, cares for the leper, the outcaste, and the blind, and if his heart is like that gentle heart that broke upon the cross, then He can have my heart without reservation and without question.

TGIF!!!!
last night at 11 me and jac stood on the roadside opposite cine clicking the words of an adidas advertisement into our handphones. okay at 1st i was the only one doing it until jac decided i was too slow so she did the other half haha. so my dear girl we were +creating memories+, and if i have to live on in your memories as a doofus who does the silliest things, as long as i make an impact and you'll always have something to remember me by, just as well!

Impossible is just a big word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live in the world they've been given than to explore the power they have to change it. Impossible is not a fact. It's an opinion. Impossible is not a declaration. It's a dare. Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary. Impossible is nothing.

mmm actually i'm posting this because i think it's rather appropriate for all of us, somehow almost everyone i know is facing some sort of hurdle in their lives right now. be it the gruelling med or law or dentistry interviews that are coming up, seasons commencing, school, work, whatever it is, don't let it weigh you down. because truly impossible is nothing; jesus rose again on the 3rd day. aiyoh i sound like an adidas spokeperson here. just so you get the gist larh. just think of the impossible is nothing mantra and by God's grace we'll all pull through yar. remember His love and have a very blessed Good Friday :)

i'm so very extremely grateful that job opportunities just seem to come my way, all at the right times. just today i got 2 job offers in 15 minutes without me even having to look around. personally i hate job hunting, for the same reason i hate interviews. i hate having to sell myself and make myself look eager and capable and hardworking and whatever nonsense because i know i'm really a lazy sod at heart. so thanks to seow, hsien, and pris for all the offerings but i've decided to take on mr lim's job of relief teaching for one week at pjc. uh-huh. i'm embarrassed to say this even. i'm gonna teach j2 chem. that's right you heard me. wouldn't have guessed it huh. but it's only for a week so how much damage can i do..okay nobody answer that question. i've half the mind to msg mrs tham and tell her about this but april fools day is over.

other than that, i'm unhappy. god this reticence is killing me.

gonna watch the prince and me now, i think indulging in some chick flick silliness would do me some good. chow.

i went for a trinity production yesterday, this musical cum play thing called caught-not in the act. i think i've actually found the church for me. the atmosphere was right, worship was almost as good as fcbc's, and the crowd mix was perfect. and i've always liked the stained glass windows. hur. the play itself was quite good too, despite the slight tackiness and strange songs at crucial points that i couldn't stop giggling at. i especially liked the climax, the juxtaposition of the crucifixion and the interrogation by the police, usually only one scenario is played out and the audience is supposed to make inferences about what it represents. i'll probably watch this again on good fri itself, i'm gonna make this my most eventful and meaningful good friday and easter weekend, it's time to return to God.

there was a young married couple sitting in front of me, the wife was very much with child. and i am starting to believe that the most beautiful people don't come in 34-24-36 proportions complete with silicon-enhanced boobs, rather they are pregnant women. they smile at everyone and everything, they emanate such glow, such radiance. and they're filled with so much joy and peace and love it's incredible.

and remind me never to watch incredible tales or anything freaky involving a mirror. or anything freaky at all.

some day i will learn to let it all go. but for now, until the last grain of sand slips through my clenched fists, this is the frozen pane you will see, these are the glacial words you will hear, and this, my paper heart, will be torn but for you.

We look at everything through a glass, darkly. Sometimes we can peer through the glass and catch a glimpse of what is on the other side. If we were to polish the glass clean, we'd see much more. But then we would no longer see ourselves.

All stars fall at some time. But a star is only a tiny spark from the great beacon in the sky.
